Everyone wondered why Texas Governor Greg Abbott was taking so long. Legislators passed a constitutional carry bill that they wanted to sign a few weeks ago. Without his signature it would have become law on Sunday.

We had heard from reliable sources that a signing ceremony was scheduled for tomorrow morning at the Alamo in San Antonio. Now Texas media reports that the governor signed the law with no pomp or circumstance.

Maybe he’ll do something more ceremonial tomorrow, that doesn’t matter in the end. Texas is now the 21st state in the nation to allow citizens who legally own a gun to carry a gun without government permission (starting September 1, when the law goes into effect). That is a large percentage of Americans who can exercise their right to keep and bear arms, as provided by the Constitution and the Founding Fathers.

Louisiana could make it to 22 next week. Legislators there passed a constitutional carry bill that is on the desk of Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards. He certainly has no intention of signing it. Some expect him to veto.

But the governor apparently wants to become a senator one day. One little bird tells us that the smart money is to do nothing at all without his signature on June 24th and make constitutionality law in Louisiana. We will see. Stay tuned.
