A Texas grill place received $ 1 million in financing after securing a PPP loan. The restaurant is Joshua Argires’ Texas Barbecue, but the problem is there is no restaurant and no barbecue – and Argires may go to jail.

Eater Austin spoke to Miguel and Modesty Vidal from Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ to see how they fared in South Austin. The couple said that while sales were down about a quarter, strong on-the-go sales kept them afloat.

Pitmaster Derrick Walker, from Fort Worth’s Smoke-A-Holics BBQ, spoke to The Manual about his typical Tex-Soul style and the challenges of being a black Pitmaster. “There are so many African-American Pitmasters who don’t get the kind of press or attention they deserve,” he said. “… But you know, to me, I’m just a barbecue cook and I happen to be an African American.”

Smoke grill restaurant in San Antonio Downtown closed in late July, but it has reopened and sells BBQ family packages from a new address.

The new Braunfels Smokehouse will be closed It’s the only restaurant that will be permanently open on Friday, but the manufacturing facility will continue to operate and products will continue to be available by mail order.

A new line of barbecue sauces comes from an old recipe. Eudell Watts IV created the Old Arthur’s Barbecue Co. from recipes that his great-great-grandfather Arthur Watts had developed as an enslaved grill chef.
