You may want to check your driver’s license if it doesn’t have a gold star on it. Starting next year, you may not be able to get past TSA for your flight.

The Real ID Act is a federal law that was passed by Congress after September 11th.

The law requires government-issued driver’s licenses and ID cards to be accepted for certain federal purposes, such as entering a federal building or boarding a domestic flight.

It was passed in 2005, but as of October 1, 2020, every air traveler aged 18 and over will require a Real ID-compliant driver’s license or other acceptable form of identification to fly within the United States
