Texas DPS launches new search for driver’s license and ID playing cards

Texas Department of Public Safety introduces a new look for driver’s license, ID and driver’s license to carry cards.

The new cards are made from polycarbonate, which is more tamper-proof and harder to reproduce. DPS also said the cards will be laser engraved as an extra layer of protection against alteration and counterfeiting.

The front of the card has an identifier for people with a health condition that can affect the way they communicate. The new design also identifies veterans and disabled veterans on the face of the card as well as their branch.

The cards are still REAL ID compliant, which is indicated by a gold star in the upper right corner. Starting October 1, 2020, you will need a valid passport, U.S. military ID, or REAL ID-compliant driver’s license to travel on commercial airlines or enter federal facilities.

The Texas License to Carry Handgun cards will also be given a new look along with the above laser-engraved and tamper-proof material features made of polycarbonate.

The DPS started issuing the newly designed cards this week.

All previously issued licenses are valid until the expiration date stated on the card.
