Back in late August, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) came out with a roughly 2-hour video about the history of roadside parks across the State. Here is that video:
From the description of that video:
For many years, traveling Texans have stopped at roadside parks to take in the scenery, stretch their legs, and even picnic. That is thanks to the work of a young immigrant from the Netherlands who pioneered the look and use of Texas’ roadside parks. This webinar featured a TxDOT historian, architect and the director of Maintenance who presented about the history of the young architect, the status of roadside parks, and how you can be part of TxDOT’s historic preservation process.
