EL PASO, Texas (KTSM-TV) – The Texas Department of Public Security states that government-issued driver’s license holders will no longer have a 60-day waiver period for expired cards after April 14, 2021.
The waiver was permissible when the COVID-19 pandemic began.
According to the DPS, residents with expired cards will need to make an appointment through their website portal because the DPS in Texas has a new policy process in place.
Customers can also telephone to extend the option by calling 1-866-DL-RENEW (1-866-357-3639). All associated costs are the same as if renewed in person. Additionally, many Texas residents can bypass going in person or scheduling an appointment through a website.
For those who need to visit in person, the opening hours have been extended from Monday to Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. An online planner is strongly recommended for residents.
Certain offices offer limited appointments on the same day, but these are allocated based on availability. There will also be a “standby” list, which means they will have to wait in the office for a call about a “no show” or cancellation.
All COVID-19 standards and protocols are enforced in every DPS office in Texas to ensure a safe environment.
